USDT0 is a cross-chain stablecoin protocol that facilitates the movement of Tether's USD₮ across multiple blockchains using LayerZero's Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard. It employs a lock-and-mint mechanism, locking USD₮ on Ethereum and minting equivalent USDT0 on destination chains, maintaining a 1:1 peg without relying on traditional bridges.
USDT0 was launched in January 2025 by Tether in partnership with LayerZero Labs. This is the first "omnichain" version of Tether’s flagship USDT, allowing for zero-cost cross-chain transfers.
In February 2025, Tether announced The Legacy Mesh, enabling USDT transfers across Ethereum, TON, and Tron.
In April 2025, Chaos Labs published an independent mechanism design review of USDT0.
In June 2025, The Stable team has introduced Stable, a new Layer 1 blockchain designed with native integration of USDT as its gas token, with its three-step roadmap released in July 2025, with the team announcing the Launch of Phase 2 expected in early November 2025.
