Star Atlas is a blockchain-based space exploration game, integrating gaming with a decentralized economy on Solana. Players can immerse themselves in a metaverse, fly spaceships, build their fortune in space, explore and conquer new territories, and more, while simultaneously and have a say in the governance of the metaverse through holding POLIS tokens.

History

Star Atlas is a grand strategy game built on the Solana blockchain, aiming to be one of the most ambitious RPGs built on the blockchain. The game is a grand strategy space epic set in the distant future, with three factions competing for control of the galaxy. Similar to other blockchain-based games, the game leverages 'play-to-earn' incentives to reward players economically for their contributions within the universe of the game.

The Star Atlas metaverse utilizes a dual-token system. ATLAS is the native in-game currency used within Star Atlas, and can be used to purchase digital assets (in the form of Solana-native NFTs) such as spaceships, land, and equipment, as well as the unit of exchange for the Star Atlas NFT marketplace. Players will be able to earn ATLAS through in-game activity (including space exploration, mining, and combat) or sales by other players. POLIS is the governance token for the Star Atlas universe. In addition to its use as a governance token for the Star Atlas metaverse itself, the token also confers certain advantages to players in the form of political influence over territory and factions within the metaverse world.

As of now, the project is still in its early stages. The development team has outlined a five-phase rollout plan for Star Atlas. The project is currently in Phase 2 with the launch of a browser-based minigame version of Star Atlas in December 2021. Prior to that, Phase 1 was a 'Galactic Asset Offering' during which game assets were available for purchase in the Star Atlas Marketplace and asset trading between players was available. Phases 3 then involves the development of the full game, with certain modules being released, Phase 4 involves the launch of the beta version, and Phase 5 is the final launch of the full game.
