Spheron Network is a decentralized platform that connects GPU providers with users needing high-performance computing resources. It allows individuals and businesses to monetize their underutilized GPU hardware by leasing it to developers and researchers for tasks like machine learning, scientific simulations, and CGI rendering.
Argo App was founded in 2020 by Prashant Maurya and Mitrasish Mukherjee as a decentralized hosting platform for Web3 applications. In April 2021, the project rebranded to its current name Spheron Network. On April 15, 2021, Argo App closed a $1.5M seed round at a $12.5M valuation from investors including Ascensive Assets and Onchain Capital. This was followed by its IDO in May 2021.
In May 2021, the project focused on key partnerships. They announced a partnership with Kudo Money to bring commercial lending to DeFi. Furthermore, in the same period, the project partnered with MahaDAO, bringing decentralization & unified data management to their stablecoin. A partnership with Shield Finance was also announced to add more credibility & protect the retail investors. In July 2021, the team partnered with Ladarken where the latter leveraged Spheron's decentralized hosting and storage support. In July 2021, the team launched Spheron Protocol V2 adding DAI stablecoin integration on Polygon, usage-based billing via a Payment Smart Contract. In June 2022, the team participated in the Tachyon accelerator program. In September 2022, Spheron partnered with Akash Network to make P2P marketplace for cloud compute more accessible. In November 2022, Spheron Network partnered with SINSO Technology to enhance the development of applications within the Filecoin ecosystem and improve interactions with storage providers.
In January 2023, Spheron partnered with LYNC to simplify Web3 game deployment. This was followed by a partnership with KYVE and Akash Networks on January 25, 2023, to enhance dApp development infrastructure, allowing KYVE community members to deploy protocol nodes using Spheron's platform. In October 2023, Spheron raised $7.1M in a funding round designed to address UX, security, and reliability issues within the web3 infrastructure layer. The round attracted notable investors including Protocol Labs, Paradigm Shift Capital, ConsenSys Mesh, Julian Traversa, Alpha Wave Global, Z47, Tykhe Ventures, Nexus Venture Partners, Sandeep Nailwal, Aniket Jindal, and Zee Prime Capital. This funding provided the capital necessary for the company's subsequent strategic pivot and product expansion.
By 2024, Spheron had established itself as a “Decentralized Compute Network (DCN)” through its permissionless peer-to-peer compute marketplace. Other notable developments in Spheron’s evolution include:
In August 2025, the introduction of ICL YAML v2, offered a cleaner, more compact deployment format with inline CPU/RAM/storage/GPU requirements and pricing, including GPU vendor/model filtering.
In September, the team announced key partnerships with NodeOps allowing them to leverage GPU compute for open infrastructure scaling in DePIN deployments, 0G.AI to expand collaboration and power the first AI-native blockchain with decentralized storage and speed, Chainbase to fuse omnichain data with Spheron's compute for enhanced DePIN applications and Hivello to enables monetization of idle compute via DePIN aggregation, unlocking supply and user earnings.
In November, the team announced that enterprise-grade NVIDIA clusters (A100 to H100/H200/L40S) became available on Spheron at reduced prices for global AI scaling.
