SingularityNET is a network of Artificial Intelligence (AI) services accessible through a decentralized marketplace (AI marketplace). The network allows users to create, edit, and manage AI-related services like model training and inference or to deploy AI agents via its AI Publisher product before sharing and monetizing the services on the AI marketplace. Developers can charge users for the use of AI services using the AGIX token.
SingularityNET is developing AI-DSL (Artificial Intelligence Domain-Specific Language), a specialized programming language for standard communication and interoperability between AI agents on the SingularityNET platform. SingularityNET also runs Singularity Studio, an enterprise arm focused on building AI solutions for Institutions.
SingularityNET was first introduced in October 2017 as a decentralized AI marketplace to enable AI agents to monetize AI services at scale. Ben Goertzel and David Hanson co-founded SingularityNET to address the lack of retail access to AI services that were usually limited to an industry or specific enterprise institutions. In November 2017, the project team debuted with the spin-off of its enterprise arm, Singularity Studio. This was followed by a token generation event (TGE) for SingularityNET’s ecosystem token, originally deployed as AGI on Ethereum with a maximum token supply of 1.00 billion. On Feb. 11, 2019, a beta version of SingularityNET’s marketplace launched with incremental upgrades throughout the year. On April 20, 2020, a beta version of Publish AI went live with subsequent SDK and developer tooling support for publishers released in September 2020.
In February 2021, AGI tokenholders voted to deprecate the original AGI token, rebrand with the launch of the AGIX token, and approve the Phase 2 proposal to expand to the Cardano platform. The token upgrade increased the maximum token supply from 1.00 billion to 2.00 billion, with half issued on Ethereum and the remaining half issued over the years on Cardano.
While developing SingularityNET, the project team has also incubated and released several other third-party ecosystem projects. Two notable projects, among others, include:
By April 2022, the project team had begun discussing plans to move away from Ethereum and launch HyperCycle, its own Layer-2 network on Cardano. It also deployed its marketplace on Cardano, allowing users to stake AGIX on Cardano to facilitate fiat-crypto conversions for the marketplace on Cardano for rewards.
On March 29, 2024, SingularityNET announced a proposed merger with blockchain-based AI projects Fetch.ai and Ocean into Artificial Superintelligence Alliance, a universal AI project. The merger will combine all three projects with individual tokens (i.e., FET for Fetch.AI, OCEAN for Ocean protocol, and AGIX for SingularityNET) into one project and token with the ticker “ASI”. The merger's finalization depended on approval from the Fetch and SingularityNET communities, which was sought through governance votes. The merger was approved by both AGIX and FET tokenholders. The token migration is set to begin in May 2024, at which time FET, OCEAN, and AGIX tokenholders will be able to swap holdings for ASI at specific rates. For instance, AGIX tokenholders will be able to exchange AGIX for ASI at a fixed rate of 1 AGIX to 0.433350 ASI with no deadline. This rate is determined by the 866.7 mil ASI (33% of ASI supply) allocated for AGIX swaps. While the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance vision paper suggests that the ASI token will feature staking, a commercially reasonable search found no further disclosures on the function of the ASI token.
Beta versions of the SingularityNET marketplace and AI Publisher remain operational. Although, according to the project’s latest roadmap:
