Huma is the first PayFi (Payment Finance) network, built to accelerate global payments with instant access to liquidity. Its open-stack liquidity protocol powers use cases across cross-border payments, stablecoin-backed cards, and trade finance.
Huma Finance was founded in 2022, positioning itself as a pioneering PayFi network focused on on-chain, global payments and lending for businesses and underserved markets. By late 2022, Huma moved quickly to capture a share of the rapidly growing payment finance market through income-based lending protocols and infrastructure for digital asset-backed payments.
By February 2023, the team had its seed round, raising $8.3M. The round was led by Distributed Global, with ParaFi, Folius Ventures, Circle Ventures, Robot Ventures, and Anagram Ventures. Funds catalyzed product development and initial market entry for Huma’s platform.
In May 2023, Huma partnered with Jia. This partnership enabled quick loan deployment, enhanced transparency, and provided growth capital to SMEs using USDC via the Huma platform. In July 2023, Arf and Huma launched an on-chain liquidity solution for cross-border payments, a significant development in the financial technology sector. By December 2023, Huma deployed on Celo enabling RWA credit solutions. With this integration, Huma tokenizes receivables and provides risk management services, benefiting organizations focused on unlocking access to capital like impactMarket, Jia and Arf.
By April 2024, Huma merged with Arf, a cross-border payment platform, enabling tokenization of RWAs for cheaper, faster, and more transparent global payments. This partnership unlocked liquidity by removing the need for pre-funded SWIFT accounts and freed trillions in idle capital for businesses.
In September that year, Huma network announced today that it has raised $38 million in funding.
By February 2025, the team welcomed Patrick F. Campos as Chief Business Officer (CBO). By that, the team aimed to accelerate Huma’s efforts to redefine global liquidity, credit, and access to capital.
In April 2025, Huma V2 was released, which shifted the project from basic income-based lending to a global PayFi platform, fueling payment infrastructure for businesses and financial institutions. In May 2025, the project released its token - $HUMA, the native utility and governance token of the Huma ecosystem.
In August 2025, Huma alongside Arf and Geoswift launched a real-time global payments solution that enables same-day settlement for Amazon sellers in Asia, leveraging Huma's stablecoin liquidity infrastructure to replace traditional banking delays with instant, compliant payouts.
By October 2025, Huma and Arf joined as providers in the Circle Payments Network, enabling rapid, capital-efficient cross-border stablecoin settlement at scale.
