Friend.tech is a blockchain-focused social media platform designed to enable the financialization of user accounts. The platform offers the creation of an account and link users' “X” account. Each account on friend.tech has an associated platform-specific assets that are offchain and non-tradeable. Purchasing a Key requires the buyer to deposit a varying amount of ETH into a smart contract, after which the purchase and “ownership” of the Key are reflected in the user’s friend.tech account.

History

Friend.tech was created by “Racer” (”X” Account - deleted) and “Shrimp” (”X” Account). In March 2023, the two founded Stealcam, a platform that allows users to create and share photos and videos as NFTs onchain. According to a May 2023 Decrypt article, the two were inspired by the ideas behind Stealcam to create a new platform (friend.tech) that would serve as a social token launcher, enabling the speculation of social capital onchain.

On Aug. 10, 2023, friend.tech’s beta version went live. The platform is fully live; however, access remains by association only (to sign up users must reference an already registered user). Once registered, users can trade Keys, message in rooms, create posts, utilize BunnySwap, and provide liquidity via the ETH/FRIEND pool on friend.tech.

Notable milestones in the project’s development include:

• Aug. 14, 2023 - A points program for beta users was announced.
• Aug. 24, 2023 - The ability for users to send photos within personal rooms was added.
• Sept. 20, 2023 - Support for friend.tech on desktop was added.
• Oct. 4, 2023 - Added the ability to change login methods for users’ accounts.
• Nov. 7, 2023 - Undisclosed performance upgrades that decreased the load time for in-app data by ~10x.
• Nov. 16, 2023 - “Posts” and “Votes” were introduced.
• May 3, 2024 - Friend.tech v2 launched in tandem with the FRIEND token airdrop.

Future plans for the project include improving accessibility features, such as allowing users to join with a Reddit account, a platform-wide keyword search, and recommended Keys. Other notable improvements are intended to include a referral program, cold-wallet support, and altering the distribution ratio of fees from Club Key swaps. A commercially reasonable search did not reveal a scheduled implementation date for any of these features.
