About
Floki is a community-focused platform revolving around the FLOKI meme token. Floki aims to provide decentralized finance (DeFi) products, marketplaces for gift cards and merchandise, and blockchain-based play-to-earn (P2E) gaming.
History
Floki (also referred to as “Floki Inu”) was conceived by a group of pseudonymous developers in June 2021. The impetus for its creation was an “X” post from Elon Musk about his new Shiba Inu puppy, named Floki. “Floki V1,” the project’s original ERC-20 token, was deployed and listed on Uniswap in early July 2021.
Notable developments of the project include:
2021
- In July 2021, the project team announced an airdrop of FLOKI V2 tokens to holders of FLOKI V1. The migration was conducted due to FLOKI V1’s contract being “extremely poorly written and [having] countless bugs.” One such bug included an “inflation bug that increased supply 14 times in less than two weeks.” Users were required to send FLOKI V1 tokens to a particular address (here) prior to the swap deadline on July 6, 2021. According to a post on “X,” all collected V1 tokens were “sold and the liquidity used to fund the new LP pool for V2.”
- The FLOKI token was deployed on BNB Smart Chain in July 2021.
- The project team announced Valhalla, Floki’s flagship NFT metaverse game, in September 2021.
2022
- In January 2022, Floki completed its “Nottingham Upgrade,” in which both the ERC-20 and BEP-20 FLOKI token contracts were upgraded to enable “voting and governance.” The upgrade also implemented a “liquidity tax” to bolster FLOKI liquidity on decentralized exchanges and an “anti-whale dump mechanism” that “taxes extreme dumps with a very high price impact.”
- In February 2022, the Floki DAO conducted its first offchain vote on Snapshot. The proposal in question permitted FLOKI tokenholders to vote on whether excess tokens from the project’s inflation bug should be returned to the project’s multi-sig wallet. The deadline for returning excess tokens from the V1 inflation bug was subsequently set for September 2022.
- In February 2022, the project team released the “Alpha Prototype” for the Valhalla Battle Arena.
- In July 2022, the project team launched the Gemstone NFT collection and FlokiFi Locker.
2023
- In January 2023, the project team launched Shop Floki.
- In February 2023, the FLOKI transaction tax was reduced from 20.00% to 0.30%.
- In April 2023, Floki Card went live in partnership with FCF Pay. Later that month, the project’s FLOKI staking program was launched on testnet.
- In October 2023, Floki’s “sister token,” TOKEN, went live and became tradeable on Uniswap and PancakeSwap. Shortly thereafter, Floki’s staking program went live on mainnet.
Users can (i) play Valhalla in its Alpha Release build, (ii) participate in Floki’s DeFi products, FlokiFi, and TokenFi, (iii) fund virtual prepaid Visa/Mastercard gift cards using FLOKI on Floki Card, (iv) purchase Floki apparel and merchandise on Shop Floki, (v) stake FLOKI to earn rewards in TOKEN, and (vi) participate in Snapshot governance. Notably, the project team intends to release an updated project roadmap on March 22, 2024.
Lastly, Floki University is a planned crypto education platform that aims to introduce new crypto industry users to the Floki ecosystem. A commercially reasonable search found no verifiable information on this feature’s planned release date.
