Centrifuge is a blockchain-based platform that integrates real-world assets into decentralized finance. It offers onchain management of capital structures and debt facilities. The platform reduces traditional securitization costs and provides decentralized governance and equal participation during the securitization processes. Centrifuge emphasizes legal compliance and security in its operations, supporting asset tokenization and DeFi liquidity access.
Centrifuge team has been in the financial supply chain industry for more than two decades. In 2018, the original idea was to built Centrifuge OS also know as Centrifuge Operating System, an open, decentralized, public network for a new era of applications for the financial supply chain. Latter the ambition of the team expanded to build Real World Asset (RWA) DeFi.
Since the initial publishing of Centrifuge OS whitepaper in 2018, there has been lots of changes in how the technology around Centrifuge will be developed. While the initial vision had remained the same, the technology has migrated a bit. The project started as TradFi, and eventually the team decided to expand the scope of the project to DeFi. However, introducing Business documents as NFT has always been the core of the project since its inception. Similarly, the centrifuge chain which started as a side chain of Ethereum with the Proof-of-Authority concept was also migrated to parachain on Polkadot eco-system with Proof-of-Stake consensus. The native token RAD for Radial Network also changed to CFG in 2020.
The project has established two key partnerships, one with Aave and one with MakerDAO. Partnership with MakerDAO enables the assets from Tinlake, which is the marketplace of asset pools bringing together Asset Originators and Investors based on Centrifuge protocol, to act as collateral in a MakerDAO smart contract.
Centrifuge has raised a total of $11.8M in funding over 4 rounds. Their latest funding was raised on Feb. 23, 2021. The public sale was launched on Coinlist on May 7, 2021.
