In 2023, Canton Network was announced as a new institutional-grade blockchain, purpose-built for regulated capital markets, privacy, and interoperability. The foundation and neutral governance body were established to ensure compliance and open development.
In 2024, major banks and fintechs including Goldman Sachs, BNY Mellon, and Cboe Global Markets began testing tokenized assets, on-chain repo, derivatives, and digital custody using the Canton protocol. By July 2024, Bitwave also joined Global Synchronizer Foundation, enabling financial institutions utilizing the network to leverage audit-ready digital asset finance platform to track and price Canton Coin transactions.
In September 2024, The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) and Digital Asset completed a pilot called the UST Collateral Network, focused on using DLT to tokenize U.S. Treasuries (USTs) for collateral purposes.
By October 2024, Euroclear and Digital Asset collaborated on a pilot project to tokenize three asset classes - UK gilts, Eurobonds, and gold. Furthermore, October also saw Novaprime's emergence as a AI-Powered Loan Quality Platform, powered by Canton Network, allowing lenders to sell loans quickly, with high confidence and improved customer experience.
In November 2024, UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced a pilot program to issue digital gilts using blockchain technology, with the goal of modernize the 2.5T GBP Gilt market through the Canton Network.
In January 2025, Circle announced planned native USDC support on the network, enabling private transactions and the use of USDC and USYC in TradFi markets.

In August 2025, major financial institutions executed a US Treasury repo trade on a Saturday using blockchain. The deal was carried out on the Canton Network through Tradeweb.
