Botanix is a Bitcoin-based L2 network that integrates Ethereum Virtual Machine functionality via its Spiderchain architecture. It supports Bitcoin-native DeFi actions - staking, lending, trading, payments - while inheriting full Bitcoin security through decentralized multi-signature custody managed by a federation of orchestrators.
Botanix is a Bitcoin L2 built to unlock Bitcoin-native finance through a programmable EVM environment, decentralized validator set, and yield-bearing BTC assets. Launched in 2023, Botanix leverages the Spiderchain, a rotating multisig and PoS-based architecture secured by BTC, to allow Bitcoin holders to participate in DeFi without leaving the Bitcoin security model.
By November 28, 2023, Bitcoin Magazine reported that Botanix Labs had “officially launched the first‑ever fully decentralized EVM equivalent Layer 2 on Bitcoin” in the form of the Botanix testnet.
In May 2024, the team announced its pre-seed for $3M, which was led by UTXO Management. Other investors included Edessa Capital, XBTO Ventures, Eric Wall, bloocmates and Curiocity Capital. Slightly after, the team also raised $8.50M in a seed round with investments from Polychain Capital, Placeholder VC, ABCDE, Valor Equity Partners, Andrew Kang and 21 others.
In July 2024, the team announced six strategic partnerships and integrations to start spiderchain summer. Among the partnerships were Owlto Finance, Slogain, Kult Games, Particle Network, Lorenzo Protocol and Skate. By August, the list of integrated projects grew further, with the new additions being Avalon Labs, Ankr Network, Spindle Finance, Runes Terminal, Tomo and Rune Mine.
In October 2024, Botanix Labs joined Chainlink Scale and integrated CCIP. As part of this program, Chainlink Data Feeds were integrated into Spiderchain. Additionally, Chainlink CCIP was also integrated into Spiderchain as its canonical cross-chain infrastructure, giving Botanix builders the industry-standard services needed to build novel on-chain apps secured by Bitcoin.
By September 2025, Botanix Labs launched stBTC, representing a user’s staked BTC and accrues yield directly from onchain transaction fees, paid entirely in Bitcoin, with no lockups or bonding periods.
In October 2025, the team announced a partnership with Hinode Technologies, gaining a strong partner in Japan with both institutional credibility and a proven track record in blockchain operations.
