Blast is an Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solution providing native yield for ETH and stablecoins through optimistic rollups. It features auto-rebasing for ETH and USDB, with yield sourced from ETH staking and on-chain T-Bill protocols. Blast also offers gas revenue sharing with dApp developers, enhancing economic incentives on the platform.
Blast was announced on Nov. 20, 2023. Tieshun Roquerre founded the project to provide native yield for users. Upon the project’s reveal, Blast Early Access went live, allowing users to bridge ETH, stETH, WETH, and supported stablecoins (e.g., USDC, USDT, and DAI) to Blast to begin accruing Blast Points. Notably, bridged tokens could not be used or withdrawn once deposited onto the network during Early Access.
The Blast Sepolia testnet went live on Jan. 16, 2024. Simultaneously, the Big Bang Competition began, allowing developers to register decentralized applications for the opportunity to receive a share of the “BLAST Community Airdrop” and be promoted to users upon Blast’s mainnet launch. On Feb. 23, 2024, 47 winners were selected by a panel of judges.
On Jan. 26, 2024, an invite-only Blast Audit Competition through Cantina began, where participants competed for up to $1.20 million in prizes.
On Feb. 29, 2024, Blast went live on mainnet, introducing an official bridge and the ability to withdraw tokens to Ethereum.
