Autonomys Network is a decentralized blockchain project designed to support AI infrastructure, built on the Subspace Protocol. It operates as a layer-one blockchain with a focus on integrating distributed storage, computing, and application development for AI systems. The network employs a Proof-of-Archival-Storage (PoAS) consensus mechanism, where participants, called farmers, contribute disk space to maintain the blockchain and earn rewards. This consensus separates transaction ordering from execution, aiming to enhance scalability and efficiency.
Key features include a Distributed Storage Network (DSN) for permanent data storage and a Decoupled Execution (DecEx) framework, which uses modular domains, isolated environments tailored for specific applications like smart contracts or AI training. Products include Auto ID, a domain for managing decentralized identities for humans and AI agents, and Nova, an EVM-compatible domain for executing smart contracts. The network also supports three node types: Full Nodes for processing blocks, Archival Nodes for storing blockchain history, and Light Clients for resource-limited devices.
In October 2021, Dr. David Tse of Stanford University joined Subspace Labs.
In September 2022, the core contributors of Subspace Labs launched the Gemini II Stress Test to prepare for the highly anticipated Gemini II Incentivized Testnet. By September 2023, the Subspace Network successfully launched Gemini III, in the lead up to our Mainnet beta launch.
In June 2024, Subspace rebranded to Autonomys, marking a significant milestone in the project's journey.
In July 2024, Peter Nguyen joined the team as a CMO, bringing a 15 year of experience across different industries, including finance, technology, and blockchain.
By September 2024, the team announced their phased mainnet launch. Phase 1 aimed to launch the consensus layer, Phase 2 launched the domain in Q1 2025, and Phase 3 focused on their scalability roadmap over the course of 2025 and 2026.
In December 2024, the protocol began releasing engineering breakthroughs around its DSN (Distributed Storage Network), establishing the primitives for cryptographically verifiable, permanently replicated data via global farmer nodes.
In January 2025, the team successfully established partnerships with Rivalz, DIN, Multiple Network, and Morphic. By February, Safe and Phala Network were also added as partners. Furthermore, the Taurus testnet was upgraded brining over 2000 TPS on EVM. Argu-Mint v2 was also released, leveraging the network's open-source Auto Agent Framework.
By March 2025, Talisman - a multichain web3 wallet - was also enlisted as a partner. This integration significantly enhanced Autonomys functionality, accessibility and interoperability.
By July 2025, the team partnered with Heurist, Fireverse and PAI3, while it also prepared for its TGE, which took place in September.
October 2025 brought the Hyperlane bridge was deployed on Auto EVM, enabling users to wrap and bridge AI3 to Ethereum, and deprecated the Taurus testnet, upgrading it to the new Chronos testnet.
