Alethea AI is a research and development studio focused on integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology. It develops tools for creating and managing AI-driven digital assets. Its flagship product, CharacterGPT, is a multimodal AI system that generates interactive AI characters from text descriptions, featuring customizable appearances, voices, and personalities. The AI Protocol, built on blockchain, enables decentralized ownership, interoperability, and governance of these AI assets using smart contracts.

The ALI Utility Token (ALI) facilitates transactions, governance, and upgrades within the ecosystem. Alethea AI also offers Intelligence Pods, which enhance NFTs into intelligent NFTs (iNFTs) capable of tasks and interactions. Other features include EMOTE-1, a generative engine for lifelike expressions and voices, and integration with platforms like Solana for tokenized AI agents.

History

Founded in 2019 by Arif Khan, Alethea is an ambitious project which, if successful, aims to preserve and enrich humanity's collective intelligence. Underpinning the project is the Artificial Liquid Intelligence token, used in a variety of contexts within Alethea's metaverse–Noah's Ark. Fittingly named, the Ark is where iNFTs live, quite literally. Within this world are conversational avatars with human features, such as Alice. Auctioned in the summer of 2021 by Sotheby's, Alice is the being of To the Young Artists of Cyberspace (2021), itself the pioneering piece of a collaboration between Alethea AI and avant-garde artist Robert Alice. Drawing a hammer price nearing a half-million US dollars, the auction drew significant media and public interest. A few months later, The Revenants is debuted on OpenSea and drawing in nearly four thousand ETH. The next artistic endeavor by Alethea AI, this was the first opportunity for a larger audience to enter the ecosystem, democratizing access to iNFT technology from the hands of one lucky owner of Alice to one hundred investors with ten thousand Personality Pods units minted, each unique. The driving force behind Alethea, Arif Khan has worked with technologies powering intelligent NFT innovations, including artificial intelligence, deepfake technologies, and computer-generated imagery.

With the ability to come to life when fused with a Personality Pod, the iNFTs are truly unique and lifelike. This is not only creative, but also technologically advanced. Described further in the Technology page of this document, Alethea's iNFTs depend on leading technologies. GPT-3 serves as the basis for the iNFT intelligence and consciousness, as it allows the virtual being to learn from "seed texts" which form the personality of the artificial intelligence (AI). While the iNFTs are themselves evidently unique, so too are the Personality Pods. Training the AI models refines their ability even further. The creation and training of intelligent NFTs require the project's ERC-20 token, ALI.

Becoming publicly tradable in February 2022, via its listing on Uniswap, ALI token was in its early stages. The Alethea AI project is developed by Alethea Tech, with Arif Khan its Chief Executive Officer. Lead investors for Alethea AI sales rounds include Metapurse, Crypto.com Capital, and Binance, with numerous others and the public joining in committing nearly thirty million dollars to the project. This is before the sale of iNFTs and Personality Pods, which themselves were record-breaking. The project is well-backed and developing steadily thus far.

In June 2023, Alethea AI announced the launch of Open Fusion, which can integrate ChatGPT, and allows anyone to request any ERC-721 NFT to be fused with an Intelligence Pod.

By October 2023 Alethea AI announced Amazon Web Services as its strategic cloud collaborator to enhance AI training and jumpstart experiments with Open-Source Foundation models.

By June 2024, ALI  token was airdropped, divided into four tiers based on your $KINDS holdings. In the same year, some of the biggest developments were the release of Alethea AI's CharacterGPT - a ground-breaking text-to-character AI system, and the expansion of Noah’s Ark Metaverse.

In September 2024, Alethea announced integration of agentic AI characters on Solana Seeker Devices, demonstrating multi-chain ambitions with a focus on scalability and reduced transaction costs.

On-Chain AI Swarms were also introduced by December 2024 - intelligent, autonomous agent-to-agent protocols, marking the first step toward collaborative, decentralized AI environments.

In early 2025, the EMOTE-1 Engine was launched adding depth, presence, and relational context to interactions. By August 2025, Aura Framework was also unveiled, laying the groundwork for AI Swarms.
