Introduction

Decentralized Applications (dApps) are open-source distributed implementations of application protocols dApps first became integrated with blockchains with the development of the Ethereum Network in 2015.

Many of the largest cryptocurrency networks have been developed as platforms for the creation and implementation of DApps including Ethereum, EOS, and Tron. Not to be confused with smart contracts, DApps are distributed applications that operate using smart contracts as their back end.
