Perps volumes on Solana have increased dramatically over the past year, growing almost 8x YoY as of Dec 31, 2024. Jupiter and Drift dominate the landscape today, with a combined market share of 98%. Both corresponding tokens – JUP and DRIFT – have repriced to the upside in recent months, especially DRIFT, rallying ~250% after the U.S. election. On its part, Zeta (ZEX) has a very low market share today (~1%) but a unique near-term catalyst that could catapult its growth.
Specifically, the Zeta core team is building Bullet, an ultra-low latency rollup for high-frequency trading (HFT) that will serve as the infrastructure for the next generation of the perps DEX, Zeta X, with an expected mainnet launch in Q1 2025.

In this regard, it would be naive to limit the size of the opportunity to perps DEXs on Solana only. Hyperliquid – built on its own L1 – remains king today, registering almost 5x more trading volume than all of Solana perps DEXs combined. Carolina, protocol services analyst at Blockworks, foresaw Hyperliquid capturing the bulk of the perps DEX market share as early as April 2024 thanks to "its emphasis on delivering a CEX-like user experience, infrastructure customizability [via its own L1], responsiveness to market demands [seamless onboarding, extensive token listings], and alignment of user incentives with protocol growth [via the HYPE token]." When analyzed through this lens, Zeta's market share is virtually insignificant, with Hyperliquid registering about 700x more trading volume.
