🌱 Zcash's Sapling upgrade seeks to improve the performance and functionality of shielded transactions

The next major upgrade of Zcash ($ZEC), codenamed Sapling, is scheduled to activate in Oct. 2018. The update seeks to make shielded addresses even more ubiquitous. Some of its changes include

• Sapling z-addresses which are shorter and more efficient addresses that will replace the legacy Sprout z-address
• Decoupled spend authority that allows hardware that constructs zero-knowledge proofs to be independent from hardware that signs for the transaction, thereby allowing enterprises to perform cheaper and safer signatures
• Extended capabilities of viewing keys which allow owners of shielded addresses the ability to view transaction details without exposing their private keys
• Efficient wallets with many z-addresses that allow businesses to create large numbers of distinct and unlinkable z-addresses for their clients
