Zcash network upgrade 3 will activate on mainnet in July

Today the Electric Coin Company shared that Zcash’s upcoming Heartwood upgrade will activate on mainnet at block height 903,000, which is expected to occur in mid-July. The Heartwood release will deploy ZIP 221 and ZIP 213, which improve interoperability through Flyclient support and give miners the option to immediately shield mining rewards in coinbase transactions, respectively. In order to help the ecosystem prepare for the mainnet activation, Heartwood has already been activated on the Zcash testnet.

Why it matters:

• With a regular upgrade schedule, Zcash not only aids it’s community’s preparedness for network upgrades, but also allows for continuous and predictable improvements of its protocol.
• In January, The Zcash community reached consensus over the Zcash developer reward for the next four years, clearing up a major overhang on the project, and providing clarity for its also upcoming Network Upgrade 4 set for November.
