Polymarket no longer has a monopoly over prediction markets. On June 1, Polymarket led prediction market OI with a 57% share ($125.3 million). By December 31, Kalshi led with a 42% share ($355.9 million), followed by Polymarket at 41% ($349.7 million), and Opinion at 15% share ($124.3 million).
Polymarket's sector diversity is a strength, with thesports, political, and crypto sectors each surpassing $1.2 billion in December 2025 volume, showing it does not rely on a single category to drive activity.
Culture is the fastest-growing sector on Polymarket. From June to December, monthly volume increased 687%, reaching $264.3 million in December, more than Kalshi’s second-largest sector.
Polymarket’s usage remains highly concentrated: 59% of wallets account for 1% ($292.6 million) of all-time volume, while the top 0.23% of wallets account for 63% ($20.2 billion).
For Polymarket to reclaim its lead in prediction markets, it will need to use the POLY token to incentivize repeat trading in targeted sectors, specifically sports, culture, and economy, and target wallets with low-to-mid lifetime volume ($100 to $5,000).
