Polkadot's experimental chain Kusama rolls out a soft launch
Polkadot's ($DOT) experimental "canary" chain launched today with the goal of providing a sandbox for developers and even encouraging them to break the protocol. Kusama mimics what they can expect in Polkadot - deploying parachains, staking, nomination, validation, and even participating in governance.
To start, Kusama has begun as a Proof-of-Authority (PoA) network with validator nodes run exclusively by Web3 Foundation. After an initial period of one to four weeks, it will shift to a decentralized PoS network with active governance and balance transfers.
