Off The Grid launched in early access on PS5, Xbox, and PC via the Epic Games Store. The extraction royale game currently supports 60 players, with plans to expand to 150 at full launch. It combines elements of Escape from Tarkov and Call of Duty: Warzone in a futuristic cyberpunk setting.
The game merges tactical gameplay with looting and survival mechanics. Players can equip and upgrade cybernetic limbs for various abilities. The Snaresetter cyberarms, for instance, allow players to deploy electromagnetic traps during combat.
HEXs form the core of the game's economy. These loot boxes can be collected and extracted at specific locations. Items from HEXs can be traded on the GUNZ testnet using the GUN token, connecting traditional gaming with blockchain technology. The game is free to download and play across platforms.
Daily transactions on the GUNZ testnet currently sit at 3.6M, while total transactions have hit 50.3M since launch just a few weeks ago. Although not particularly impressive, it highlights that a decent portion of the game is actually on some form of crypto rails, despite what players might see from their own perspective.
The Gunz L1 supports both Off The Grid and Technocore, a mobile game where players control drones to collect loot. While most game logic remains offchain, players can use the Gunz subnet for item trading and rewards. As of now, on testnet most transactions are GUN rewards to users, alongside NFT trades and HEX decoding transactions.
In Off The Grid almost all in-game assets exist as NFTs. The game offers players the option to convert these assets into tradable NFTs. However, players can avoid this process and mechanic altogether if they wish. This approach is different to other attempts we’ve seen before, which either:
