About

The xx network is a consumer-scale online platform which enables users to share information and exchange value without exposing data about themselves to organizations who could gather and abuse it. Data protection is achieved using a new form of mixnet technology developed by Elixxir for decentralized and secure private communications. Praxxis consensus technology enables the xx network to operate without centralized control, giving decision-making power to users through a democratic governance system. Finally, Praxxis blockchain technology allows users to store and exchange value amongst each other with no middle-man and low-fees, while protecting users' identities.

History

The xx network was founded by cryptographer and privacy pioneer, David Chaum and represents the culmination of decades of research and development. Beginning in the late 1970s and early 1980s David recognized the threat of centralized control and abuse of the emerging Internet. He was credited with inventing the first permissioned blockchain and mixnet and inventing a number of widely used and cited cryptographic protocols, especially in the privacy space. In the 1990s David invented eCash, an electronic cash application that aimed at preserving users' anonymity. In 1995 his company DigiCash, an electronic money corporation, created the first digital currency with eCash. In the 2000s David developed verifiably secure digital voting and election systems, with elections held at the World Forum for Democracy in 2017.

The xx network brings together all of this technology along with innovations in scalable mixnets and blockchain consensus protocols to build a secure, private alternative to the centralized online platforms we currently rely on. While email, social media, and web applications have transformed the way we communicate and exchange value, mainstream technology companies have proven unwilling or unable to protect user privacy, opting for profits based on advertising instead. Even with encrypted messaging applications, metadata is collected to track consumer behavior including the sender, recipient, and time stamp. Governments and organizations are using this data to manipulate users and ultimately threaten our freedom.

xx network is implementing blockchain technology and cryptography which obscures metadata to offer a private, decentralized messaging and payment platform. This means that with xx network technology, there is no way for any third party -- including companies, governments, or even the xx network itself -- to see information about the sender or recipient(s) of communications or payments. The xx network claims to be the first quantum secure blockchain platform to scale linearly in authenticator complexity ensuring that it can handle the throughput and speed requirements to effectively replace centralized services. This is done through scalable blockchain consensus, mixnet infrastructure, and decentralization, giving operational and decision-making power to users through an egalitarian and democratic governance system.

The xx network aims to create a future of online technology platforms where the users are in control of their data and incentivized to participate in the governance and growth of the network.
