Trollcoin is a cryptocurrency project to study how a cryptocurrency branded and based in trolling can proliferate.

History

Trollcoin is a meme-based cryptocurrency designed to operate distinctly separate from what the project's founders believe to be the simple, unspoken narrative of most other digital assets: "Buy our coin and get rich." Trollcoin aims to "give the people what they want" by rejecting all of the aforementioned clichés by design and leaving users with only one goal: viable utility.

The project was launched anonymously on Mar. 14, 2014 as a parody currency. It has since managed to function, in a small role, as a Twitch and Twitter targeted tipping service. Trollcoin is a centrally managed platform that uses a hybrid Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism.
