About

Sonic is an EVM layer-1 blockchain platform that evolved from the Fantom, focusing on high performance and scalability for decentralized applications. The platform supports a native token called S, which is utilized for transaction fees, staking, governance, and running validators. Users holding the previous FTM token will be able to convert it to S at a 1:1 ratio upon the launch of the new network.

Key features of Sonic include:

  • Performance: Sonic boasts capabilities of processing over 10,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality times, making it suitable for high-demand applications in various sectors like gaming and finance.
  • Interoperability: The platform emphasizes seamless interactions between different blockchains.
  • Incentives for Developers: Sonic Labs plans to implement various incentive programs to attract developers and foster innovation within its ecosystem.

History

Sonic Labs has achieved several key milestones in its development as it transitions from the Fantom project to a new layer-1 blockchain known as Sonic Chain.

  • On December 2, 2024, Sonic Labs successfully produced its Genesis Block, marking a significant step towards launching the Sonic Chain. This milestone indicates that the foundational framework of the blockchain is ready for further development and deployment.
  • The upgraded testnet, named Blaze, was introduced prior to the mainnet launch, with an average block time of 1.17 seconds and a finality time of 0.85 seconds for its initial blocks.
  • Sonic Labs secured $10 million in funding from various investors, which will support ongoing development efforts and infrastructure enhancements for the new blockchain.
  • An airdrop of 190.5 million $S tokens was announced, which will be available for exchange at a 1:1 ratio with the existing FTM tokens held by users.
  • The Sonic Chain will feature a bridge called the Sonic Gateway, enabling interoperability with Ethereum and allowing access to its liquidity while maintaining low transaction costs and high throughput.
  • The public launch of Sonic Chain is expected to occur in December 2024, following the completion of necessary infrastructure and testing phases.
