Pillar is community-run smart contract based wallet supporting Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains - Polygon, xDai & Binance Smart Chain - in a unified multichain experience. Powered by the native Etherspot SDK and governed by the Pillar community DAO through its own native token - PLR.
Founded in 2017, Pillar Project was launched to change the way assets and data are managed, as well as the way services are accessed, by building an intuitive platform with user's privacy at its core. Pillar's vision for its platform is a user-centric one, giving trustworthy access to the crypto world and the most popular web3 platforms to users who also decide on the future of the platform through the decetralized governance.
Incorporated in 2017 and based in Zug, Switzerland, Pillar Project Foundation is the corporate entity that coordinates the creation of the platform. Right after a successful ICO, conducted by a collective effort of over 20 volunteers, Pillar organized its first Unconference in Poprad, Slovakia. It was the official launch of operations and the first community gathering, from which new team members were hired. It was followed by Pillar Unconference 2018 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
In September 2017, a UK limited company - Pillar Project Worldwide Limited - was set up and became a service company to execute creating the platform under the supervision of the Swiss Pillar Project Foundation. Core team members have a background in coding, software entrepreneurship, product design, banking, marketing and finance. Pillar is a distributed open-source software project with contributors in a range of timezones globally.
The first public product release took place in December 2018, when the Pillar Wallet app was launched on iOS and Android. In 2020, Pillar recognizing the industry trends became a smart contract based wallet. The latest product, released in June 2021 Pillar V2, is the multichain wallet allowing for cross-chain asset management on Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains.
In 2020 Pillar Foundation decided to start gradually shifting decision-making power to token holders in the Pillar DAO. This confirmed project's community-first ethos and made Pillar the platform where users vote on funding development, business or marketing initiatives. Pillar governance venues are open and available to all PLR holders enabling them to have a say on the project's future.
