INTChain is a layer 1 blockchain ecosystem, designed for easy integraton integration with Internet of Things (IoT) protocols. Its network's unique dual-chain architecture, utilizing Improved Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (IPBFT) and Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) algorithms, aims to provide an anchor point for multiple subchains of IoT devices. The INT protocol's native token, INT, is used for governance, gas fees, new device registrations, and value transfer across subchains; and can be bridged to Ethereum and BNB.
INT launched in August of 2017, with a private sale of 250 million ERC-20 INT tokens to undisclosed investors. Shortly thereafter, the INT Foundation was established and tasked with off-chain governance of the project. The protocol's goal, at inception, was to develop an ecosystem that addresses and solves the key shortcomings of blockchain implementation in the IoT field: lack of a standard language and data storage method, network inefficiency, high cost, lack of security in a centralized system, and lack of rigorous privacy standards. The INT team asserts that their protocol remedies these shortcomings via a unique spin on the traditional Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance Algorithm — resulting in a faster, more scalable, and more secure consensus mechanism.
Over the course of 2018, INTChain released testnet versions 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0; and implemented smart contract capability, peer-to-peer network communication, and the Improved Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (IPBFT) consensus algorithm. The INT token was listed on OKEX, Debi, Bitfinex, and Ethfinex by the end of 2018. INT's mainnet launched in January of 2019 — at which point migration of the INT token from Ethereum to the native INTChain began. The INTChain community later voted to burn over 39 million un-migrated tokens remaining on Ethereum, reducing total supply by 3.7%. 2019 also saw the launch of the INT mobile wallet, "SmartWallet", and the INT 4.0 testnet.
In 2020, INT focused on buildout of INT4.0 and laid the foundation for cross-chain interoperability — upgrading SmartWallet with multi-chain functionality, and issuing an ERC-20 INT token. After the launch of the INT 4.0 mainnet in August 2021, complete cross-chain interoperability was introduced; enabling compatibility of smart contracts with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). A bridge to Binance Smart Chain (BSC) was later added, and INT was subsequently listed on PancakeSwap. INT launched their grant program in November 2021 with a $1 million project support fund. The grant program is meant to support ecosystem R&D as well as dapp (decentralized application) developers, and will begin deploying funds in 2022. Near the end of 2021, the platform deployed INTBOX: their own NFT trading platform.
