About

The Hathor network is a PoW blockchain combining directed acyclic graph (DAG) with current blockchain technology.

Hathor’s architecture enables the network to scale to hundreds of transactions per second. The network shares a lot of the hash rate with Bitcoin.

HTR is the native token of the Hathor network and is used to reward miners and mint new tokens. The token is merged-mined with the Bitcoin blockchain.

Hathor Network, at its core, is a scalable tokenization platform designed to enable plug-and-play blockchain solutions. The main features of the network that distinguish it from competitors are its zero fee and quick transactions, built-in atomic swaps enabling different tokens to be reliably exchanged in the same transaction, the ability to create custom tokens in one click, and an easy way to use version of smart contracts connected to oracles (“nano contracts”).

The first product deployed on the mainnet is a tokenization service.

Smart contracts and coding are not involved in the creation of tokens on Hathor, as they are created in layer 1, built in the protocol itself. Any user can create a token from their smart phone in minutes by defining the parameters for token name, symbol and initial supply and decide to allow minting or burning tokens in the future.

History

Hathor’s novel architecture was first proposed by Co-founder and CTO Marcelo Salhab Brogliato in his PhD thesis.

Development of Hathor Network began in August 2018. Their mainnet has been live since Jan. 3, 2020 6:15pm UTC, exactly 11 years after Bitcoin's genesis block. 1 billion HTR were pre-mined in Hathor’s Genesis block.

Hathor Labs, the company behind Hathor Network, was founded by Brogliato, CEO Yan Martins, and CFO Layla Mendes. It manages the pre-mined native HTR on behalf of the planned not-for-profit Hathor Foundation, and also offers consultancy and institutional support for enterprise clients.

Hathor Labs partnered with one of its early adopters, HTRFDT, in October 2020 to build out a full ecosystem including HathorSwap, a no-gas DEX, HathorVirtualCard, HathorMerchantDirectory, and HathorPay. HathorPay launched in May 2021.

In April 2021, Hathor Labs announced its partnership with Ankr–a node-as-a-service-solution platform that allows users to deploy/manage nodes across 30+ blockchains. The partnership creates an integration with the Ankr platform, providing dApp developers easier access to run full nodes and become a part of the network.

The most recent roadmap targets extended nano contract capabilities, bridges for cross-chain interoperability, NFT support and side-DAGs.
