Elements is an open source, sidechain-capable blockchain platform that allows users to design, build, and operate their own blockchain. It provides access to features developed by the community, such as Confidential Transactions and Issued Assets. Elements can operate as a standalone blockchain or be pegged to another blockchain, enabling verifiable asset transfers between different blockchains. Built upon Bitcoin's codebase, it serves as a testbed for changes to the Bitcoin protocol itself. Notably, Blockstream's Liquid is an example of a production use case for an Elements-based sidechain.
