What is Pinax?
Pinax is a key contributor to The Graph ecosystem, working as one of its core developers. The Graph is a decentralized protocol designed for indexing and querying data from blockchains, making it easier for developers to access and use blockchain data in their applications. In June 2023, The Graph Foundation officially announced Pinax as a core developer alongside another entity called Geo. As part of its role, Pinax is required to publish monthly updates on its technical contributions and progress within The Graph's community forums, with its first such update dated August 2023.
Pinax’s Technical Contributions
Ethereum Blob API Replacement
Pinax has developed a drop-in replacement for the Beacon Chain’s blob API. This replacement utilizes a key-value store as the data backend (or “sink”) and is intended to facilitate efficient data handling for Ethereum’s new data types introduced with EIP-4844 (“blobs”), which are important for scalability and rollup use cases. The flexibility of the solution allows for future sinks, such as S3-compatible storage, depending on user demand and feedback

Substreams-powered Subgraphs
Pinax also contributes to integrating Ethereum’s blob data into The Graph network via Substreams-powered subgraphs. This approach allows the Graph Node to serve as the data sink, enabling developers to build subgraphs that use the Substreams stack for Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) tasks. These subgraphs are publicly accessible on The Graph Network and can be queried through its explorer. Pinax’s integration supports historical access to blob-carrying transactions—a critical necessity for rollup chains that interact with Ethereum
