Haven Protocol: Can Haven Become a Leader in Private Finance?

In a world where we are surveilled by centralized powers more than ever before, financial privacy has never been more important. Privacy was always intended to be an important feature of the ideal cryptocurrency. This goes all the way back to Satoshi Nakomoto’s original whitepaper, with even further traces to Bitcoin’s cypherpunk roots. Financial sovereignty and privacy go hand in hand.

Today investors are realizing the importance of maintaining privacy related to personal financial data and blocking it from public consumption and tracking. Growing valuations across the privacy coin sector demonstrates this increase in popularity despite regulatory bodies attempting to limit the exposure of these coins.

Haven is a prime example of a cryptocurrency that provides financial sovereignty. It is a fork of the Monero blockchain, which is widely reputed for its leadership in crypto privacy. Haven aims to be an easily accessible “offshore bank” with its own ecosystem of synthetic assets that users can enter through Haven’s native XHV token. Haven’s mint and burn algorithm allows users to switch back and forth from the speculative XHV token to various stable, synthetic assets all within the privacy of the user’s vault. The algorithm, which guarantees $1 worth of XHV will always be convertible for 1 xUSD with no counterparty involved, allows users to do these conversions with infinite liquidity, no slippage, and near-zero fees. For example, a user recently converted over a million dollars worth of xUSD into XHV and paid only $2,032.69 (0.2%) in fees, but we will never know who that user was.

Rocky Start

Haven was founded in 2018 by two anonymous developers. Their idea of a decentralised algorithmic stablecoin based on the Monero blockchain was a noble one, but their execution was flawed and their skill set lacking. Going into the testnet phase, the project had a lot of momentum and the price of XHV was increasing rapidly; however, the original developers did not have the skills to finish what they started and the project began to fall apart. The original developers sold their premined 95k XHV and abandoned the project. Members from the community with a wide range of skill sets saw the original idea of a private decentralized stable coin as something that was too important to leave unfinished. They picked the project up from the ground with a focus on transparency and collaboration with the community. There has been no premine by the new team, no ICO, and no investment from venture capital. In July of 2020, the team was able to release the world’s first private stablecoin, xUSD. Since then the price of Haven has increased considerably, well surpassing its 2018 high, and continues to gain momentum.
