During an interview with CNBC's Squawk Box U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo argued that assets like Libra or Bitcoin should be regulated with the current frameworks used for electronic financial transactions. Pompeo mentioned transactions flowing through SWIFT as an example but conceded that using existing rules would be "difficult to do." During the same interview Pompeo also opined on private transactions, stating they would “decrease the security for the world" if they became prevalent.
