UN official says crypto makes cybercrime fighting harder

During an interview with Australian Broadcasting Corp. Neil Walsh, chief of the cybercrime and anti-money laundering section of the UN's Office on Drugs and Crime, commented that cryptocurrencies make efforts to fight cybercrime "significantly harder." Walsh cited the "pseudonyms nature" of these assets specifically. The comments come just a few weeks after a U.N. report claiming that North Korea has collected an estimated $2 billion by hacking crypto exchanges and financial institutions, though the report failed to disclose the breakdown of funds taken from each segment.
