Interesting: A U.S. federal court denied Craig Wright's (#faketoshi) motion to dismiss a lawsuit over 1.1 million Bitcoin ($BTC) worth around $4 billion today, that the plaintiff alleges Wright seized from a former business partner as part of an early bitcoin mining operation.
That partner, Dave Kleiman, died in 2013, but the claim is being pursued by Kleimen’s brother, Ira, on behalf of Dave’s estate. CoinDesk reports six of the nine counts of Wright’s motion have been denied, and the South Florida court acknowledged the plaintiff has "sufficiently alleged a claim for conversion” of at least 300,000 bitcoins Wright allegedly transferred to various international trusts upon Kleiman’s death.
Earlier this year, Bloomberg broke down the original filing, including this gem of an accusation from Ira Kleinman regarding an old email exchange between he and Wright (following Dave’s death):
Ira: “Dave mentioned you had 1 million Bitcoins in the trust and since you said he has 300,000 as his part. I was figuring the other 700,000 is yours. Is that correct?”
Craig: “Around that. Minus what was needed for the company’s use.”
That’s a lot of bitcoin for someone completely unrelated to Satoshi. The ball is back in Wright’s court, he needs to respond by Jan. 10 to the remaining counts.
