South Korea to strictly crackdown on illegal Bitcoin mining, sees increase in activity following price surge

The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) is reportedly investigating several cases of illegal bitcoin mining following reports of incidents wherein employees and contractors at various corporations ran unauthorized software on internal computing systems to mine cryptocurrencies. According The Bchain, a local publication in South Korea, KISA has said "recently, as the value of cryptocurrencies surged, incidents of employees and contractors using computing systems of companies without authorization to mine cryptocurrencies have risen. As such, there is a need to strengthen internal systems and security measures." KISA also disclosed incidents of external hackers breaching web servers of companies to illicitly install malware to mine cryptocurrencies.
