SEC issues cease and desist against crypto research firm ICO Rating

Earlier today the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a cease and desist order against ICO Rating. According to the SEC, ICO Rating held itself out as a "rating agency" that offered independent analysis of projects that were selling tokens. The complaint alleges that the company violated Section 17(b) of the Securities Act by charging token issuers for writing, publishing, and promoting reports without disclosing to the public that it was being compensated by the issuers.
