🇨🇦 Quebec approves energy rate hikes for Bitcoin mining firms
The energy regulator of Quebec, Régie de l'énergie, gave the region's utility firm, Hydro-Quebec, the go-ahead to impose a deterrent tariff that will see crypto miners paying double the rate that is levied on households and other utility customers. The new rate for miners will now be 15 cents per kilowatt-hour. The price increase is to ensure that there will be sufficient energy during peak seasons like the winters. Over the past years, Canada has become a popular place for North American miners to move their operations to due to the cheap electricity cost.
