Pieter Wuille unveils two ‘Taproot’ proposals for an upcoming Bitcoin privacy soft fork

On the bitcoin developer email list, core developer Pieter Wuille introduced two Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) that offers two different plans for bitcoin’s next big soft fork focused on privacy, CoinDesk reports. The proposals use mention Taproot, a protocol designed to increase base-layer privacy for bitcoin users. The BIPs describe the timing and methodology for this upgrade which are designed to no add any "new strong security assumptions" and "could be simply implemented independently,” Wuille wrote.
