According to cybersecurity firm McAfee Labs, malware attacks focused on mining cryptocurrencies increased 86 percent during the second quarter of 2018 with 2.5 million new cases reported. While still high, the growth was slower than during the first quarter of the year when new cases jumped from 400,000 in Q4'17 to 2.9 million in Q1'18. While historically confined to personal computers these malware attacks have spread to other connected platforms like mobile phones or IoT devices as processing power has increased.
