DAO governance typically involves overseeing the decision-making of a single organization. Metagovernance occurs when a DAO holds voting power in other DAOs through possession of the other DAO’s governance tokens. Metagovernance is often used by a DAO to vote in its self-interest but also creates the potential for collaboration between protocols and DAOs. It will become a more commonplace practice as projects look for ways to create shared upside.
