Messari is excited to announce three new hires to our rapidly expanding team. Included are Maartje Bus, general manager of the soon-to-be-released Messari Hub; Emily Coleman, director of marketing; and Peter Bordes, director of events and sales.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to add Maartje, Emily, and Peter as they all bring extensive professional experience working with other well-respected brands in the cryptoasset space. As the Messari team has expanded alongside the ecosystem’s hyperbolic growth this year, we can’t wait to leverage this new talent during a pivotal time in our company’s history.”
- Messari CEO and Co-Founder Ryan Selkis

Maartje Bus
Maartje joins the company to lead Messari Hub, our new community-driven research marketplace offering.
She brings 20 years of experience in global capital markets to Messari. Maartje began her career as an Equity Capital Markets banker at Citi in London. Over the course of a decade, she helped raise more than $20 billion in convertible bond capital for public companies, working in Asia, Europe, and the US. In 2015, Maartje joined Thomson Reuters where she was global head of capital markets. Prior to Messari, Maartje spent three years at Omniex, most recently as VP of Business Development.
Maartje was born in the Netherlands and holds dual citizenship in the Netherlands and the United States. She has a Master’s Degree in Economics from Erasmus University of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, but now resides in the San Francisco Bay area. Maartje was introduced to blockchain technology by a friend at JPMorgan in 2015 and met Messari CEO Ryan Selkis while working at Omniex Holdings. She is excited to join Messari as she admires Messari CEO Ryan Selkis as a leader and shares his vision of the future of cryptoasset research.
“I’ve been extremely impressed by the entire Messari team. They are a smart, humble, passionate, ambitious, fun group of people. Joining a team with these qualities is immensely exciting to me as we continue to build the future of crypto.” said Maartje.
Outside of work, Maartje loves boxing, mountain biking and road biking, trail running, traveling, skiing, cooking, and entertaining.

Emily Coleman
Emily joins Messari as director of marketing. She will lead all marketing, communication, public relations, and community outreach and management for the company. Emily began her career in crypto in 2014 and found her passion for it after realizing the potential that decentralized currencies could have in helping communities impacted by hyperinflation and corruption.
Emily has over a decade of experience in marketing and communications. Before moving into the cryptoasset sector, she worked within award-winning teams in the hospitality and tourism sectors. Prior to Messari, Emily served as a senior director at emerging-tech agency Wachsman, and as CMO at non-custodial digital asset exchange ShapeShift. In 2019, she was a finalist for the SXSW Valiente Awards for her direction of ShapeShift’s “Down The Rabbit Hole” docu-series. Since transitioning to the tech sector, Emily has focused on educating emerging tech companies on the importance of customer segment identification, brand storytelling, and industry thought leadership.
Emily is currently based in upstate South Carolina, though she previously lived in Colorado and New York City. Outside of work, Emily loves hiking, running, camping, and biking in the mountains, as well as cooking and listening to live music.

Peter Bordes
Peter joins Messari as the director of events and sales, a position that he previously held at digital currency news site CoinDesk. At CoinDesk he managed their international conference, Consensus, along with many smaller events. With over 15 years of experience in event planning and management, Peter brings the experience needed to expand Messari’s annual summit Mainnet. He will also develop further event and sponsorship programming for the organization.
Peter has managed small to large-scale events since 2005, representing a variety of industries, including commercial real estate, risk and insurance, and payments. He joins Messari after five years with CoinDesk where he designed and built their events business, most notably growing Consensus from a 1-day 400 person event to a 3-day, 8,000+ person International conference and expo.
Peter has a strong passion for designing serendipitous experiences, and his end-game is retiring to a ski-in/ski-out chalet in close proximity to a stock car racetrack.
