Helium releases new product and expands to Europe

The company behind the Helium Hotspot which utilizes the Helium blockchain has released Helium Tabs. The Tabs product appears to be similar to a Tile, a popular GPS location tracking product. However, for the time being, Tabs are only available to existing Helium Hotspot owners.

Additionally, Helium announced that they are expanding sales of the Helium Hotspot to Europe, starting at $450 Euros. Helium also stated they are looking to expand to Aisa by early 2021 and are now accepting pre-orders for hotspots.

Why it matters:

  • Tabs securely transmit location (up to 10 miles) using Helium Hotspots and the LoRaWAN open protocol. This means Tabs owners are able to locate items without cellular, Bluetooth, or WiFi which may provide a useful advantage over existing consumer products.
  • Helium’s network is showing steady growth as the company reports over 4,000 nodes/Hotspots in over 100 North American cities.
