German central bank president says blockchain trial settlements are slow and costly

German central bank president Jens Weidmann says the bank's blockchain settlement project with Deutsche Boerse fulfilled financial criteria for a safe and successful transfer but was slow and computationally expensive. Discussing the project which began in 2016, Weidmann said "Similar experiences have been made elsewhere in the financial sector. Despite numerous tests of blockchain-based prototypes, a real breakthrough in application is missing so far.”
