🌴 Court ruling means Florida cops can target unregulated Bitcoin sales
Florida's 3rd District Court of Appeals has overruled a Miami judge's 2016 verdict on Bitcoin's ($BTC) classification as money. Felony charges of illegal transmission and laundering of money were raised against Michell Espinoza for selling Bitcoin on LocalBitcoins.com to undercover agents. The Miami judge threw out the charges, agreeing with the Defense that Bitcoin is not money. The Florida Appeals court disagrees, however, arguing Espinoza should have registered with the Florida Office of Financial Regulation. Espinoza has been re-charged, but no court date has been set.
