👨🏻⚖️ CFTC Chairman Giancarlo wants new bill to allow for agency's blockchain beta testing
During a Congressional hearing on July 24, 2018, CFTC Chairman Giancarlo spoke to his concerns over the U.S. "falling behind" other countries that have allowed for agency participation in blockchain beta-testing. Due to narrow gifting laws for governmental agencies in the U.S., the CFTC has been barred from taking direct part in trials of blockchain proof-of-concepts. Giancarlo hopes to push forward the CFTC Research and Development Modernization Act, which would allow the agency to directly participate in innovative fintech projects without violating any rules or regulations.
