Through an analysis of Bitcointalk posts going back to 2009, as well as direct input from early-adopters, Hasufly and Nic Carter created a visual summary of dominant bitcoin "narratives" going back to 2009. The authors observe that the "digital gold conception" has been strong throughout Bitcoin's history, while other narratives that were dominant or significant in earlier years, such as "p2p cash" and "anonymous darknet currency", have fallen considerably relative to other narratives over time. The authors emphasize the changing landscape, simultaneously held incompatible views by different factions of the community, and observe that "Bitcoin is currently benefiting from a rare period of relative harmony."
