Two recent proposals for Bitcoin ($BTC) ETFs are vying to become the first to receive approval from the SEC, one filed by CBOE and the other by Arca. The SEC has yet to approve a cryptocurrency ETF, although several applications were filed throughout 2018. Emily Chan explains the hesitations that the SEC has expressed regarding Bitcoin ETFs, including: valuation, liquidity, custody, arbitrage, and possible manipulation. An interview leaked on Twitter with Commissioner Robert Jackson expressed confidence that an applicant for a Bitcoin ETF will eventually meet the agencyβs requirements, but if any pending applications are the one remains to be seen.
