"You can’t prevent people from holding ones and zeros on a device in their pocket. That ship has sailed," said Abra CEO Bill Barhydt at the recent Bitcoin 2019 conference in San Francisco. As a non-custodial crypto app, Abra allows users to gain exposure to U.S. equities markets through Bitcoin ($BTC) based smart contracts, sidestepping regulation along the way. While crypto and traditional markets often disagree, Barhydt believes crypto is here to stay as protected speech. The decentralized nature of Bitcoin may be a chief reason for its stickiness, yet Barhydt points back at the 90s Crypto Wars which enshrine code as protected speech.
