Multiple privacy preserving technologies exist that could be added to Bitcoin ($BTC) like Confidential Transactions, Bulletproofs, zkSNARKs, zkSTARKs, and MimbleWimble. It is most likely that the hardfork averse nature of Bitcoin and concerns about masking inflation data means none of these systems will be implemented. Schnorr Signatures succeed where these fail. The tech enables new key aggregation techniques for private multi-signature events, off-chain contracts, and cross-input aggregation. Schnorr can be implemented in conjunction with other systems to increase the privacy of Bitcoin transactions, particularly against chain analysis.
