The web is a shifting product with ethical values. Built with the singular purpose of democratized information sharing, Web 1.0 was managed with search engines that inherently led to self-censorship through poor understanding of the rules. Web 2.0 sought to fix these issues by platforming information on sites like Facebook, Reddit, or Twitter. The development of these APIs have drawbacks, most notably information manipulation and false reputation signaling. The reliability of web social signals is addressed in Web 3.0 by tying reputation to accountability through immutability. Blockchain and incentive structures will push individual creators forward and platforms back. Interoperability will connect disparate parts of the web together, meaning streamlined information sharing and integrity will be the cornerstones of the new web.
