This paper explores the tensions, impossibilities, and potential solutions for certain forms of strictly “on-chain” governance and possible applications for “off-chain” governance too. They argue that on-chain governance shows striking similarities with the notion of a positivist legal order as a sort of machine that runs itself and entertain the possible vulnerabilities to on- and off-chain governance due to private peer interests.
