In a podcast with Stephan Livera, The Bitcoin Standard author and economist Saifdean Ammous discusses how to kill Bitcoin ($BTC). Ammous says, a policy goal of killing the first crypto reveals more about the government's financial status than it does Bitcoin itself. If people want to use Bitcoin where bans exist, then it shows the economic punch of Bitcoin, especially as more risk averse users adopt the technology. The use case of Bitcoin, Ammous contends, is a new method for international settlement. Bank or government bans on Bitcoin are only advertisements to potential users. To Ammous, the only way for government to kill Bitcoin is to out compete it through a superior technology with greater incentives. Returning to the gold standard would be one such way; Bitcoin may have not even come about if not for its abandonment.
